"Can I get help with adaptions to my home?"
Bolton at Home's disability Team provide advice and guidance on major adaptations for people with disabilities or who are frail elderly and need help to maintain independence in their homes. Major adaptations are those requiring structural modification of a dwelling with the cost of the adaptation being over £1,000.
For home owners
There is a means tested grant called the Disabled Facilities Grant for works such as the installation of a shower, stair-lift or ramp. These grants are available towards the cost of providing specific major adaptations in cases where equipment or minor adaptations (usually provided by Social Services) do not meet the person's 'assessed needs'.
For council house tenants
There are Disabled Facilities Adaptations - Bolton at Home provides funded adaptations for those assessed as needing structural modifications to their home.
Before a Disabled facilities Grant or Adaptation can be considered an officer must assess the person's home and their needs, taking into account the nature of their condition, any physical problems, the suitability of the home for structural modification and the needs of the carer.
