"Is there any help with transport?"
Ring and Ride
A door-to-door service for people of all ages (including some children) who find it difficult to use public transport - perhaps because of difficulties getting on or off transport, getting to main transport routes or a fear or phobia of using public transport.
Ring and Ride is designed to make short, local journeys and the fare is £1.00 (50 pence with a GMPTE concessionary permit) People who have a GMPTE free travel pass and children under 5 travel free. As a carer you can accompany the person you care for on the journey. Telephone Ring and Ride on 01204 398111.
Travel Vouchers
For people who are not able to use ordinary buses because they are registered blind or have serious walking difficulties.
To qualify for travel vouchers a person has to be a resident in Greater Manchester and receive one of the following;
- Disability Living Allowance Higher Rate Mobility Component
- Higher Rate (formerly known as 24 hour) Attendance Allowance
- War Pensioners Mobility Supplement
Travel Vouchers are not free but are substantially discounted - you can buy up to £105 worth of vouchers for £35, which is one third of the value. The vouchers can be used with taxis, community transport schemes and accessible bus services such as Ring and Ride.
